FNW traces its roots to Familian Northwest, established in Portland, Oregon in 1969. In the late '70's, some industrious sales associates, responding to a demand from the pulp and paper industry, developed the first all-cast stainless steel knife gate valve in the country. From this product, the FNW Valve brand was born and FNW was established in 1979.

Tideflex Technologies was the original inventor and manufacturer of duckbill style check valve and has continued to enhance and refine the design and performance of this product. The duckbill check valve is inherently a variable orifice device which changes it's effective opening area with respect to the internal pressure and mass flowrate through the unit.
