Ball Valves

Spheres of Control

Ball valves are quarter-turn flow control devices that use a precision-machined sphere to regulate fluid movement. When the bored-through ball aligns with the pipeline, it allows full, unobstructed flow. When rotated 90 degrees, it provides a tight shut-off.

Their straight-through design results in minimal pressure drop, while their compact footprint and compatibility with any actuator type make them ideal for automated systems that require fast, reliable operation. Constructed from robust materials such as stainless steel and high-performance polymers, they perform effectively across a wide range of pressures and temperatures.

Ball valve designs are tailored to meet the varying demands of different processes. Floating ball valves allow the ball to move slightly under pressure, pressing against the downstream seat to ensure a tight seal, making them best suited for low to medium pressure systems.

For high-pressure and large-diameter pipelines, trunnion-mounted ball valves offer added support and reduced operating torque, enhancing reliability under demanding conditions.

When extreme temperatures or erosive fluids are involved, metal-seated designs incorporate hard-facing on both ball and seats, maintaining performance where soft seats would degrade. Cryogenic ball valves extend functionality into sub-zero environments with lengthened stems and specialized seals that prevent ice formation and maintain stem integrity.

Trusted Across Industries

Ball valves play a central role in industries requiring precise, durable flow control. In petrochemical operations, trunnion-mounted valves are widely used to isolate high-pressure hydrocarbon lines and meet stringent API 6D standards. In chemical processing, metal-seated designs withstand harsh media and elevated temperatures while maintaining ANSI compliance.

For liquefied gas and cryogenic applications, valves engineered to BS 6364 standards deliver dependable sealing and operation down to –196 °C. Across all variants, ball valves are selected for their tight shut-off, longevity, and adaptability to a wide range of process conditions.
