Few things are more satisfying than polishing the sun-faded paint of an old car to restore its beautiful shine.
We typically don’t see this opportunity on severe service control valves, as they usually wear out long before the paint fades! However, that’s not the case with this 12” ANSI 600 SlurryFlo control valve (by Special Alloy Fabricators), which has been modulating an erosive gas service in Western Canada since 2018.
While its ‘racecar’ red paint has faded to pink, the valve’s original tungsten carbide internals are going strong six years later, handling big pressure drops on a three-phases and emulsion.
Maybe it’s time to include buffing wheels and polishing compounds in our maintenance kits?! 😉
